The Hills are Alive, with the Sound of Mormon Nuns!

Wow! The show opens with a lone nun singing in Latin and then the auditorium is filled with the most amazing sound as the nuns come down the aisles. And it's really hard to recognize them when you can't see their hair! After we found Maggie (the petite one with glasses), we were blown away by the vocal talents of Maria (Chelsie Shumway, one of my former YCLs and former Homecoming date of Ian) and the Mother Superior. Those two young women could have carried the show by themselves. I'm hoping to get a copy of the DVD and will try to post their duet. Maggie was probably on stage three times and up in the balcony another time, but the nuns were unbelievable. We are so proud of her participation and enthusiasm for sharing her talent. Way to go, Mags!

Cool School of the Week

Each week, our local Fox station chooses a high school for the "Cool School of the Week." This week it was Mountain View and the kids were ecstatic! All through the morning, "Big Budha" would spotlight different organizations within the school. Maggie had to be at the school by 5:45 a.m. so he could sing with the nuns from the upcoming musical "The Sound of Music." I spent Tuesday and Wednesday sewing costumes so they would be ready for the big day. You can see Maggie by clicking on the link below. She's right behind Budha in the introduction (the girl with glasses--it's funny how different all of them look without hair!) and then as the camera pans through the song. They were supposed to have choir robes, but the choir needed them, so they just wore their habits. Ian was in the group with the Bruin Crazies (the last spot of the day), but you can't see him. They were filmed introducing the sports guy saying "It's Rungie time!," but because Game 1 of the World Series ran long, they didn't use it. (Go Phillies!) We'll keep our eyes peeled, though, for it in the future.

I'm a Nun, I'm a Nun!

As we were coming home from the festival Saturday afternoon, Mags asked if we could stop by the high school to see if she had made it into the cast of their fall musical, The Sound of Music. She was nervous since she didn't made the group for Shakespeare, so we did our best to reassure her that we still loved her no matter what the outcome of this audition. As we pulled up to the door where the list was posted, we let her get out by herself so she could look over the cast. Then we heard, "I'm a nun! I'm a nun!" (This was all the funnier because when they did Les Mis two years ago, one of the girls came away yelling, "I'm a prostitute! I'm a prostitute!" not knowing what a prostitute was. After her mother explained, she was a bit more reserved in her enthusiasm.) We all jumped out of the van to look over the list and share in her moment of joy.

So we're thrilled to announce that our daughter is a nun!
